Build a Wētā Motel

Wētā are one of New Zealand’s most recognisable insects and can be found throughout all environments and habitats in the country!

Wētā are only active at night, and are usually preyed upon by cats, rats, hedgehogs, and other pests as they don't have the best options for hiding spots! Found in rotting logs, under rocks, and scattered around household objects outside, building a wētā motel can provide them a safe alternative to lie during the day.

There are heaps of ways to get involved in Conservation Week.

Become a Kiwi Guardian with the Department of Conservation here and get involved with activities and tips!
