About the Event

Art by Simon Morrison-Deaker, Jess Staples, Sam Staples, and Ira Mitchell will be for sale on the night. 15 year old Sam Staples (photography taken in the kiwi park) and 18 year old Jessica Staples will feature drawings, paintings, and photos of flora and fauna of the Kiwi Birdlife Park. Ira Mitchell has been mentoring Sam and Jessica in art and business and this show is a culmination of a year's work and research of species at the park! Sam is currently a student at Wakatipu High and Jessica is taking a gap year to work on her art and save for university.

Queenstown artist Simon Morrison-Deaker will showcase paintings of native species, while Queenstown born Ira Mitchell will show paintings of native species and landscapes.

Simon Morrison-Deaker: A Queenstown based artist and graduate of Victoria and Massey School of Design (1997, Wellington. Multi media and Arts Collage Christchurch 1999). Working in film and design from 2000, Simon’s been an artist full time since 2002. He has works held in public and private collections in New Zealand - and private collections in Australia, England and the U.S.A.

Ira Mitchell works full time as an artist and tutor in Christchurch, currently doing her Masters in Art practice and training as National Geographic Educator. Part of her business is to support her community by way of donations from sales of my art and volunteering her time. She has been acknowledged with Civic and NZer of the year and local hero awards, and represents the GOLDEN Art Company of New York and travels to show there regularly.

Refreshments and food are available for purchase, plus you can go in the draw to win a signed and framed print!

During the week Ira will be running animal drawing lessons, by donation at the park, 10-11am, starting on the Sunday. Registration is required for this. Plus she will be painting onsite each day, at the exhibition.

Please help our fundraising to keep the critters of the Kiwi Birdlife Park fed and happy!
