Rest In Peace Toa

The team are deeply saddened over the loss of such a park icon. Toa the New Zealand falcon/kārearea quietly passed away recently due to old age. Toa arrived here in December 2002 as a young adult for rehabilitation after he was shot by a farmer. His wing healed in an unusual position deeming him unable to fly which would have affected his ability to hunt in the wild. Toa resided at the park for almost 20 years and in that time, won the hearts of park staff and visitors that came to see him. He was a beautiful ambassador for his species and he will be greatly missed by all. okioki i roto i te rangimarie Toa. You can still see a wild pair of breeding falcon that come into the park daily so keep your eyes peeled!

Produce Box QT

We just want to say a huge kia ora to The Produce Box Queenstown for their continuous support over the last 18 months. Providing our animals with fresh fruit and veggies for free. How lucky are we! Ka pai!

Local's day

We would love to invite all to come and visit us on the 5th of December for Local's Day! We will not be charging our usual admission fee on this day but a small koha (donation) would be greatly appreciated! Come and learn more about the work we are doing here at the park. If you have already visited us then chances are things have changed a little since you were last here. We want to say a massive thank you for all the support over the most difficult year since opening our doors. Hope to see you there to celebrate!

Eggs news

In recent newsletters, we have focused lots on the successful breeding results of our whio (blue duck) and pāteke (brown teal) this year. But it doesn't end there... we have delayed this months newsletter in anticipation of other exciting news. Our South Island kākā pair have just laid their first egg on the same day that we spotted an egg with our youngest kiwi breeding pair! Any offspring for both of these species will also be released into the wild. This photo is of our last kākā chick from a previous season. How cute!
