Our final addition to the Park for this year’s breeding season, Russell our South Island kākā chick is thriving. The chick hatched on December 21 last year and is doing well, fledging the nest earlier than expected.
South Island kākā are part of Project Janzoon, and any offspring from the breeding pair will be released into the wild near the Abel Tasman area. The chick has been a boisterous addition to the park’s whanau and is enjoying his new aviary near the brand new kiwi house! See Russell before he takes flight at the Kiwi Birdlife Park today.
