Our staff was able to partake in the release of 48 pāteke (brown teal) into the Milford Sound area on the 11th after delays due to heavy rains in the region, 1 meter of rainfall in 24 hours to be exact! It was worth the wait for the bluebird day as the crew descended to Lake Ada and released the birds with ease.
The team at Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Trust looked after the ducklings after they hatched and prepped the birds with radio transmitters prior to release. The birds will be monitored as months go on and tracked for survival rates. Big thanks to our friends at the ICWT, Air NZ, and DOC for their support and hard work with monitoring the release site.
