Meant to Bee

Back in January, we noticed our hive shrink in numbers. With the help of our beekeeper, we realised our queen was only laying male eggs.

A hive is generally 100 females (workers) to 1 male (drone). The drone’s only job is to impregnate the queen, with the workers responsible for doing everything else!

We now have a new queen and the hive is back to its wonderfully fascinating functional self, thriving with thousands of bees. Come and see it in our Honey Bee Centre.

(Our Honey Bee Centre is free entry!)
