WHIO AWARENESS MONTH

March is national Whio Awareness Month and there are heaps of ways to support our treasured taonga this year. We have whio at the Park that are part of a breed-for release program, which means admission and souvenir sales directly fund our breeding program.

Outside of our park, Whio Forever work to maintain their habitat and increase whio numbers across the nation. They have heaps of prizes to be won and different ways to get involved at www.whioforever.co.nz and be in the running to win a pair of AllBirds shoes!

Whio are incredibly unique and rare, and without help against predation and river clean-up, their survival rates will quickly decrease. Visit the park today to learn more about these precious birds and to see them live in action.
